Living a life led by Jesus

This afternoon, I was listening to Nayza Martinez on TikTok and she said something which really stood out to me.  As a way of staying out of sin, if she is tempted, she writes down the scripture related to not doing that sin. What a fabulous idea! So I took some time to look for scripture which define people’s actions and found that it would work in reverse too – write down from scripture, the positive actions you should do.

A few examples are of using scripture to move away from sin:

  • If you’re angry, look at Psalm 37:8 – Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; fret not yourself in any wise to do evil.

  • Taking part in gossip, read Ephesians 4:29 – Let no evil word proceed from your mouth, but words that are good and useful for edification, that they will impart blessing to those who hear them.

  • Struggling with pornography, try Matthew 5: 27-28 – You have heard that it is said, you shall not commit adultery.  But I say to you that whoever looks at a women with lust, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  • Feeling tempted, look at 1 Corinthians 10:13 – No other temptation has overtaken you but that which is common to man; but God is faithful; he will not suffer you to be tempted beyond your endurance; but will make a way for you to escape your temptation, so that you may be able to bear it.

Looking on the positive side and using scripture to guide your actions:

  • Wanting to share the word of God, read Matthew 28:19 – Go therefore, and convert all nations; and baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; and teach them to obey everything that I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, to the end of the world. Amen.

  • Feeling the need to pray, look at Romans 8:26 – Likewise the Spirit also helps our weaknesses; for we do not know what is right and proper for us to pray for; but the Spirit prays for us with that earnestness which cannot be described.

  • Choosing friends, Proverbs 13:20 tells us; He who walks with wise men shall be wise; but a companion of fools shall suffer harm.

You can see from these examples that you can find scripture for most of your actions and using this way of learning the bible will help you live a life in line with the teachings of Jesus.

I pray that you read your scriptures daily as you move forward in doing good and not evil.
